The Race

All are welcome at our relays.  Universities, schools, sports clubs, or a group of friends. Team prizes are only on offer to teams that are entirely made up of either: students at the same university, past members of university clubs, members of the same sports club, or students at the same school. Fastest leg prizes, however, are available to all competitors.

The race is very popular with regular attendances from a number of university and club teams.

Women compete in teams of 3, men and mixed in teams of 6, each covering the same 3.010 km course:

The Race Course, Wythenshawe Sports Ground, M23 0BD

Registration, changing and prize giving will all take place on site in the Wythenshawe Sports Ground Pavilion (blue dot), right next to the course, so no need to keep moving about!

The Venue

The race is held in south Manchester at The University of Manchester’s Wythenshawe Sports Ground, address: Willenhall Rd, Wythenshawe, Manchester M23 0BD .

From the M60, leave at junction 5 and join the A5103 (Princess Parkway) southbound (signs to Wythenshawe). Immediately leave the A5103 to join the B5167. On leaving turn right (this will take you under the A5103) onto the B5167 (Wythenshawe Road).

To get to the sports ground from Wythenshawe Road (B5167) turn left/right coming from the west/east (if you have just left the A5103 it’s a right turn) onto Sale Road (B5166). Take a right off Sale Road onto Yewtree Lane and then left onto Willenhall Road. Continue along Willenhall Road under the motorway. Negotiate a sharp left turn after the motorway underpass and continue along the road to reach the parking area and pavilion (for registration and changing rooms).

There is ample parking for cars, coaches and bikes.

Comprehensive changing facilities and showers are available. There will also be a food and drink stall selling snacks (lots of cake!) and sport and hot drinks.

The race is run entirely over fields making it suitable for spikes. The course is completely traffic free with no road crossings.

Post-race Social

Lots of photos and photobombs!

UMACCC hosts an after-party for friends of the club.  This typically includes a meal at one of the fine establishments on Rusholme’s famous ‘Curry Mile’, some competitive beer racing, and a pre-booked night out in ‘Madchester’. If you or your club would like a place to stay on the Friday and/or Saturday nights then please notify us by contacting the Relay Secretary at euan.gilchrist@student.manchester.ac.uk , and we will do our best to accommodate you in our members’ homes.

Tickets will be on sale to cover the cost of both the meal and the night out, please visit the registration desk on the day to purchase. Ticket prices are to be confirmed, but will be around £15.
